Who it is for
Lazy Hook is made for people who crochet, whether they are starting out, coming back after years or already have a few projects behind them. It helps most when a pattern written in abbreviations stays unreadable for want of a single picture, and when you follow patterns in a second language, whose abbreviations do not match your own.
What it does
- Patterns to customise. Dozens of patterns come with the app, in English and in French: squares to join, flowers, small pieces, amigurumi, things for the home, bags, hair accessories. You choose your colours, some can be set to the size you want, and you can join the squares into a layout.
- Your own patterns. Paste the text of a pattern found elsewhere, and it joins your library, sorted into “To do” and “Finished”.
- The chart, drawn from the text. Every pattern has its chart, whether it comes with the app or you pasted it. You can enlarge it, zoom in and rotate it.
- The pattern, row by row. You move on one row at a time, with the yarn colour of each row, and the app remembers the last row you finished. When the pattern gives a stitch count, it checks that it adds up.
- A glossary that shows how to make each stitch. Every abbreviation has its symbol, its full name and the movement explained, and the basic stitches have an animated movement.
- English and French. Both sets of abbreviations are recognised, the mapping between them is given, and a pattern's own key is read and followed.
- A toolbox. Measure your gauge swatch, find a hook size from one country to another, work out your starting chain, and spread the increases of a row evenly.
- Fully offline. The pattern reads with your hands in the yarn, with no signal.
What it does not do
- No chart editor. You do not place the symbols by hand, one by one. It is not a pattern design tool.
- No silent guessing. When a notation is ambiguous, the app says so instead of deciding on its own.
- No account, no syncing. Patterns stay on the phone.
- No iPhone version. Android only.
- No advertising, ever.

What it knows about you
Nothing. There is no account, no server, no artificial intelligence, no tracker, no advertising. Your patterns are stored on the phone and only leave it if you export them yourself: the studio cannot know what you write in them, or even whether you use the app. Only Google Play knows that the app was installed, as with any app from the store. The details are in the privacy policy, which is in French for now.

Does it build the chart for the pattern?
Yes. The app draws the chart from the text of the pattern. It is not meant for drawing a chart by hand.

Does it work with a PDF pattern?
The text is copied from the PDF and pasted into the app. The app does not open the file itself.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. The app never needs a connection, not on first launch and not afterwards.
Is there an iPhone version?
No, Lazy Hook only exists on Android.
